California State HR — IT Support Specialist (Skills-Informed)

Published by California Department of Human Resources

An entry-level IT role at the State of California. The skills-informed path means California will accept any accredited credential that proves you can do the work — you don't need a four-year degree.

Setting up your wallet on this device

No account. No password. No email. Your records stay with you, on this device. Nothing is sent to any server unless you choose to share.

  1. Your key never leaves this browser. It's generated here, stored here, and you can delete it at any time.
  2. Your credentials stay on your device. We store them here. Nothing is synced to our servers without you asking.
  3. You decide what to share, every time. When an employer asks for something, you'll see exactly what. You can say no, or share only part of it.

Welcome. This wallet is just for you.

This wallet creates a private key on this device. Only you have it. You'll use it to prove your credentials belong to you.

1
Your key never leaves this browser. It's generated here, stored here, and you can delete it at any time.
2
Your credentials stay on your device. We store them here. Nothing is synced to our servers without you asking.
3
You decide what to share, every time. When an employer asks for something, you'll see exactly what. You can say no, or share only part of it.

No account. No password. No email. Just a key on your device and the credentials you'll collect over time.

Already have a wallet on another device? Restore from a backup.

Lost your device and don't have a backup? Get your credentials back from the issuers who gave them to you.

One step before your wallet opens.

This wallet works best when every credential you collect ties back to a verified you. Verify your identity once, and every transcript, badge, and clearance you collect after this is bound to that verification.

1
Pick how you want to verify. A state mobile driver's license, a national eID, or a document scan with a selfie — choose what you have.
2
The verification stays portable. The result becomes a credential in your wallet that you can present to any program, employer, or licensing board.
3
You can change your mind. Skip for now and verify later when a goal asks for it.

"Skip for now" puts you in the same flow as if no identity verification was offered up front. You can come back to verify later.

Verify your identity

Pick what you have. The wallet works with any of these — they all produce an identity credential bound to your wallet.

Enter your phone number

We'll send you a 6-digit code by SMS. Enter it on the next screen to verify the phone is yours. Standard message and data rates apply.

We won't store your phone number after verification. The number is used to send the code and to enrich your identity claim with carrier verification — nothing else.

Email is an alternative when you don't have a phone you can verify. Codes arrive in seconds — check your spam folder if you don't see one.

Identity verified at IAL1
Verified by Telesign PhoneID + SMS OTP

Your IAL1 identity credential is in your wallet. Most California programs accept it. If a goal you're working toward needs higher assurance — for example, a state job that requires IAL2 or IAL3 — you can step up below. Each step is optional.

Add a TOTP authenticator

Open Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, or Apple Passwords on your phone and scan the QR code below. The app will start showing a fresh 6-digit code every 30 seconds — enter the current one to confirm.

Or enter this key manually
—
Save your recovery codes (shown once)

If you lose your authenticator app, these codes are the only way to recover. Save them somewhere safe — they aren't shown again.

Add a government-ID scan

AuthID will guide you through capturing your passport, driver's license, state ID, or military ID, then a brief selfie. They check document authenticity, run liveness, and match your face to the document.

Which institution can vouch for you?

An institution that already knows you can verify your identity. The credential will carry assurance level institutional — accepted by many programs, but jobs that require IAL2 or IAL3 will need a government-ID path.

Where would you like to verify in person?

We'll generate a one-time code. Bring it (or show this screen) to the service center. Your credential arrives in this wallet when verification is complete — no need to come back online while you wait.

Identity verified

Your wallet now holds this identity credential. You can present it to any program, employer, or licensing board to prove who you are. The credential is bound to your wallet's key, so only your wallet can present it.

Verification did not complete

You can try a different method, or reach out to a workforce program or community college that already knows you — they can vouch for your identity instead.

    Goals

What you're working toward. Goals come from two places: things you've decided you want to do, and opportunities other people have published.

    Your goals

Goals you've decided for yourself — a job change, a credential you want, a path you're walking. The wallet tracks what you've added against the kinds of proof you said matter.

    Share your passport with anyone

Some employers, landlords, and out-of-state programs don't have systems to check digital credentials. Make a share link they can open in any browser. You decide what shows up; you can stop sharing at any time.

Where do you live? — optional

Some jobs do a background check at your county courthouse. Some need to mail you something. Many don't need a residence at all. You decide what to share — you can come back any time.

Lock this wallet with your face or fingerprint

Use Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint to unlock this wallet. The lock stays on this device — only you and your device can unlock it.

    Have an invitation link?

If a college, employer, or workforce program has sent you a link, paste it here.

Lost or broken? Get your credentials back

If you've lost a device and don't have a backup file, the wallet can walk you through getting fresh copies from the issuers who originally gave them to you — your college, your workforce program, your identity verifier. You'll get a new wallet identity. Past job applications stay on a queue until the issuer or employer confirms it's you.

    Reset wallet

Delete the keys and credentials on this device. If you want to keep them, Move to another wallet first.

A credential is being offered to you

    First, verify your identity

Before you accept this credential, this wallet asks you to verify your identity once. Verifying through the Identity Issuer takes a minute and produces a portable identity credential.

After your identity verification finishes, we'll bring you right back here so you can accept this offer.

    Where do you live?

Answer as much or as little as you want. We can still help you with parts you skip.

Is this also where you're legally a resident — driver's license, voter registration, taxes? Sometimes people live one place but are still legally registered somewhere else.

I don't have a fixed residence right now

That's fine. You can still apply to programs that don't require a residence — workforce program intake, EBT enrollment, many community college programs. You can come back and add a residence later if a job needs one.

Your county matters for jobs that include a background check — the check looks at the county courthouse where you live. If you're not sure, you can skip and come back to it.

Skip this if you don't want to share a street address — the wallet works without it.

    ✓ Here's what you've shared.

You can come back to the More tab any time to update or remove this.

    Move to another wallet

Set a passphrase. Your wallet will create an encrypted backup file you can move to another device. We never see this passphrase. Without it, the backup cannot be opened — write it down somewhere safe before you continue.

    Get your credentials back

If you lost your device and didn't keep an encrypted backup, you can still get your credentials back by going to the issuers who originally gave them to you. The school, the workforce program, the identity verifier — each one can issue you a fresh copy bound to this new wallet. You'll get a new wallet identity (a different DID), and any past job applications or affiliations stay on a queue until the issuer or relying party can re-confirm it's you.

    Loading the recovery directory…

    Restore from a backup

Pick the encrypted backup file you exported from your other wallet, and enter the passphrase you set when you created it. Your keys, credentials, and activity will be restored to this device.
